Pilot Turned Magician
Stephen Fasano, one half of the Producer/DJ act Aeroplane has embarked on his own solo journey. Aeroplane called it quits in June and since then Fasano has re-emerged under the pseudonym “The Magician.” In true magician style, the details are still a little hazy but Fasano is currently working on an EP and a remix for The Aiku.
In the meantime, The Magician has pulled two magic tapes (Magic Tape One and Magic Tape Two) out of his hat for your listening pleasure. Yup, truly magical. Although, I’m still loving the William’s Blood Aeroplane Remix.
Swooning Over Swoon
Meet Swoon. A graffiti and street artist from NYC who caught my eye with her eerily lifelike paper street people. Perhaps her name is a devotion to the viewer’s reaction, but her creations definitely bring a whole new level of intrique to the neighbourhoods they inhabit.
Swoon’s imagined world is populated by wheatpaste prints and paper cutouts, often her friends and family, who are sometimes charming, sometimes indifferent. They traverse bridges, firescapes, garage doors and street signs, weaving paths of mystique wherever they go.
I envisage Swoon herself is a high-powered female who frolicks about the cityscape at night, leaving an enchanting trail of grafitti in dark alleyways and unoccupied corners. I certainly can’t wait to get my dirty mitts on her book.
When You’re Strange
Fear not all you rocknrollas – Rock. Is. Not. Dead. Tom Di Cillo is taking us back to the extraordinary era of The Doors (ie. the golden age of the Lizard King) with his feature documentary When You’re Strange. If you thought Val Kilmer’s protrayal of Morrison in the 1991 biopic was Wishful and Sinful (come on, you had to expect some sort of cheesy Doors reference?), then you’ll like this doco much better. The rockumentary is an homage to the legendary Doors and provides true fans with a lovingly assembled tribute to the band. When You’re Strange uncovers historic and previously unseen footage of the illustrious rock quartet, captures the height of Doors hysteria, and brings new insight into the revolutionary impact of its music and legacy. We can’t wait to get on board this musical journey alongside Morrison and his surviving three.
Get your minds out of the gutter
There has been a bit of controversy surrounding the new Lovable campaign starring Jen Hawkins AKA hotty hot hot mega babe.
Personally I think the campaign is great, and believe that some people need to get their minds out of the gutter. There are countless editorials that feature girls licking melting ice cream off their hands… something that is an everyday occurrence in the Australian summer anyway.
Lets all just chill out and enjoy Jen in her underwear… deal?
Tatts For Toys
These lego tattoo Pilot pen ads were designed to show off the precision of the Pilot hi-tec-C pens, but we like the idea of defacing lego men much more. Although the detail of the ink and the appropriation of the art of tattooing for the campaign is super impressive. Barcelona advertising agency Grey has lifted the bar, encouraging a whole new level of childhood destructiveness, with these tattooed toys making our diaper day efforts at smashing our sibling’s Duplo castles look like child’s play. Sure, toddlers will have trouble grappling with the penmanship issues, but I’ve seen kids these days do some crazy things (and some pretty horrible tattoos for that matter).
Cash Poor Life Rich
The first drop of Vanguard’s spring summer10/11 Good Morning Rucksack Wanderers collection entitled Cash Poor Life Rich is soon to be released.
Already being featured in STAB Magazine we’re predicting the favourites are going to be the Pop Eye Tee, Mummy Mark Tee and Horse Screw Tee. Our Crimpy Jeans are also back in black stonewash, which looks great paired with the black Cash Poor Life Rich singlet. Another one of our favourites is the Burn Out Tee. The hole details have been literally that, burnt… however please do NOT try this at home!
This has without a doubt been our favourite campaign to shoot so far, with the ideology of spending summer at rooftop parties with friends behind it, whats not to love. All we need now is for things to really heat up so we can start our summer and head to the beach!
Cash Poor Life Rich can now be pre-ordered online at the Vanguard Store, with deliveries expected to be sent out in the second week of August. All pre-orders recieve FREE postage.

Bam, Melbourne
Bam Brands set up another media night for their SS10/11 collections, but this time in Melbourne. Located in a loft found in a hidden lane way off Franklin street it was the perfect setting for the designer and blogger crowd.
Check out Bam’s facebook page where you’ll find lots more pictures and blogger reviews of the night.
Backstreets Back… Alright!
We always find it pretty cool when celebrities wear our clothes, and if we were a 15 year old girl ten years ago this would have been even cooler!
Backstreet boy AJ (the one on the left) recently wore our 2 Bones tee on tour.
You know you’ve made it when a backstreet boy wears your clothes, right?…
Backstreet’s back ALRIGHT!
